This artist run gallery space was founded in 1998 by a core group of concerned creatives before its membership expanded to incorporate influences from additional artists in 2007. The collective is comprised in part by Jo Addison, Michelle Deignan, Edward Dorrian, Rochelle Fry, Marc Hulson, Cedar Lewisohn, Louisa Minkin, Sally Morfill, Susan Morris, Esther Planas, Alex Schady, Francis Summers and Alice Walton.
Five Years aims to provide a direct dialog between art practice and exhibition. The curatorial programme is based on the ideas, process and challenges of the artists showing, rather than conceiving, or purporting a theme with which to address the various works under consideration. In addition to presenting a full calendar of gallery shows, Five Years also features a catalogue of publications. From illustration to painting to photography and the possibility of various other media, Five Years is a fortified home for artists exploring the boundaries of their practice, encouraging young talent to keep creating and providing a platform to show new work from a tremendous list of London’s young guns.
