Imax cinemas around the world are known for the colossal size of their screens that near engulf the movie-watcher, but the British Film Institute (BFI) Imax does them one up as the largest cinema screen in all of Europe. At 20 metres high (approximately a 10-story building!) and 26 metres wide, and with an 11,600-watt digital surround-sound system, inhabiting one of these 485 seats in the super-steep auditorium is a treat for any film fan.
Although the theatre shows mostly blockbuster films (lovers of more esoteric celluloid offerings should take a five minute walk to the main BFI venue) and 3-D features, this is the ultimate cinematic experience. Grab as much popcorn as you can carry and enjoy Europe’s biggest viewing spectacle.
