When ginger beer, a fiery non-alcoholic drink popular in Jamaica and various other ginger fermenting nations, is mixed with rum, lime, bitters and sugar it becomes a cocktail known as the Jamaican Mule. The Jamaican Mules at Market Place are the perfect way to top and tail an afternoon’s drinking—just make sure to ask to keep the cans of ginger beer, in case you need to use the dregs. Add on freshly prepared food from an assortment of sunny climes (Mexico, Spain, Lebanon etc) and there’s your introduction to the central London equivalent of Cargo.
Although tucked away only a block from Oxford Circus, Market Place somehow seems to avoid the usual downtown roar: it is quiet and unassuming except in summertime, when it becomes Londoners’ favourite underground haunt.
