Established in 1925, this home-furnishings store first made waves with rooms designed as complete interiors, an aesthetic that was not only novel but helped Denmark establish a name in edgy modern design. Though the store has switched hands—department store owners A.C. Illum A/S bought, then resold, the company after re-naming it in 1941—its consistently minimalist aesthetic makes for a striking storefront on busy Amagertorv, an exclusive shopping street.
The store also has other locations in Tivoli Gardens, the Copenhagen Airport, and Oslo. Today, a vast variety of goods can be found, from typical bed furnishings to super water-repellent rain boots and fluid-line stainless steel kitchen appliances.
