At Dunkel (Danish for dim and obscure), graphic prints of trees cover the tinted windows, black and purple paint coat the walls, and, in the bar, a stuffed owl stares down at you. Mood, anyone?
This very small, very twilight location in the heart of the city is a well-known secret in Copenhagen’s hardcore clubbing scene. It’s also a favorite spot for DJ’s where they are given license to spin whatever they want, dusk ’til dawn.
So don’t let the looks deceive you: When the party gets going at Dunkel, it can go on forever, at the fancy of the sweet but sometimes cranky owner. On lucky nights, he’s up for a long night at the bar and doling out water for longevity to the club kids.
