Michael Stevenson is an art historian who has published widely in the field of South African art history. He works closely with collectors and public galleries, and has curated many private and corporate collections.

The Michael Stevenson Gallery has hosted a series of widely acclaimed solo and group exhibitions, most of which have been accompanied by catalogues. A stable of leading contemporary South African artists has also been assembled, and the gallery has broadened its ambit to include work by artists from elsewhere in Africa. Well-known South African artists in the permanent collection include Pieter Hugo, Mustafa Maluka, Penny Siopis and Hylton Nel.
