For a city so steeped in jazz, Cape Town has been without a decent inner city venue dedicated to the art form for quite some time. This has all changed with the opening of The Rainbow Room (not to be confused with the Durban venue of the same name), a vibrant and charming basement space at Mandela Rhodes Place.
The Rainbow Room hosts an array of local and international musicians and the music programme takes in traditional jazz, experimental jazz, latin, blues, soul and funk. As music is the focus of the evening, meals are served to be enjoyed pre and post the headline act and during performance one can savour freshly baked breads with dukkah spicy rubs or a snack platter. It’s a good idea to pre-book a table as it can get busy very quickly.
