When Berliner Andrea Jacobs took over this Mitte vintage shop, its concept had already been fully fleshed out by its previous owner: take hoards of retro American prom, cocktail and bridal dresses and spin them into eveningwear gold.

Now in its tenth year, the gaggles of sequins, frills, taffeta and lace make Sterling Gold the go-to place for scoring, with equal luck, sophisticated shifts reminiscent of Audrey Hepburn or more neckline-plunging gowns that smack of Rita Hayworth. Reconstructed and fitted personally by cheerful shop attendants, the dresses here recall more glamorous times in our city.
