More than just a record store, Staalplaat’s “Working Space” is a hub for unconventional and experimental music distribution and production. Exploring the inner workings of the vast world of sound art, Staalplaat’s space hosts a gallery and book store specializing in visual art, handmade fanzines and limited edition silkscreen books and posters.
Founded in 1982 in Amsterdam, Staalplaat also runs its own music label (featuring, among many others, artists like Muslimgauze, Jim O’Rourke, Zoviet France and Charlemagne Palestine) and sub-labels like Mort aux Vaches, which elevates the art of packaging and distribution-based artwork (scratch card, lenticular or relief covers, for instance).
