Hidden away above Kaisers at Kottbusser Tor is one of the most famous stores in the world of electronic music: Schneiders Buero.
This store is really nothing short of an audiophile’s wet dream. Stocking just about every type of Analogue Synthesizer, Sequencer, Modular System, Effect and Filter you can think of, Andreas Schneider and his team of friendly specialists have been keeping Berlin’s hoards of electronic musicians stocked up with weird and wonderful sound generating devices for over a decade.
Littered around the showroom are demo stations—where any number of endlessly tweakable modular systems are jacked together—that run directly into a pair of Genelecs for you to rinse out to your heart’s content. If you show up at a busy time then you might even get the chance to test out your ultimate bleep generating patch against someone else’s.
Such premium audio wares of course don’t come cheap, but for those of you looking for a place to spend a few hours learning how to spot an LFO from a Ring Modulator, then close down that session on Ableton you’ve been sweating over for the last month and get your hands busy on some world class analogue goods.
