Red Wing Shoes finally brought more than 100 years of footwear manufacturing know-how to Berlin in September 2009, opening this Mitte boutique. Originally founded in 1905 in Red Wing, Minnesota, the company swiftly became synonymous with quality, built-to-last shoes, supplying boots to American soldiers during both World Wars and producing sturdy working and hiking boots, designed to withstand the toughest of conditions.
With more than 60 models from the Red Wing catalog on display at this store, the asking price of roughly 150€ per pair may seem a bit of jump from the first shoe’s price tag of $1,75, but the company’s philosophy towards quality products has not wavered, with each shoe still constructed by hand.
The fit may be a bit stiff the first couple of wears as you break in the leather, but once it molds to your foot, walking in anything else will just seem like a chore.
