The thought of a store full of bells might sound like a headache, but master percussionist Michael Metzler has created an oasis of jingles in the heart of Mitte. His small shop and workshop is filled to the brim with a diverse selection; some bells are made in-house, others are antique, but all are perfectly tuned by Metzler himself.
With no set hours, the shop’s doors may be locked upon arrival, but call and Metzler will generally appear in no time, chiming away a history lesson in percussion.
From giant, hand-carved bells to small bells strung together (and the occasional drum or two), Der Glockenladen offers pieces ranging in price from a few Euros to hundreds, depending on how serious a bell enthusiast you are. Every visit features a free concert, as Metzler lovingly plays on his inventory.
