The crew behind the now-defunct Automatenbar and M12 started up this little bistro, changing flavors from the bar scene they were once entrenched in. Tartane’s signature dish is the hamburger, which comes to define the entire pan-American menu that is proudly displayed on their blackboard.
Entering the restaurant through their automatic sliding door sets the tone for the evening: odd interior touches abound, though more often than not, the restaurant seems to pull them off—like a tiny upper-level alcove. While dinner can take a while to arrive and regularly over-sauced, some items still satisfy.
Chalk it up to the Canadian cook who knows how to throw flames on the grill the proper way. Tartane is a welcome addition to the increasingly culinary road that is Torstrasse, especially when you just want a good burger and some fresh french fries.
