Dark rooms in public areas can be tricky places to visit in Berlin (hello Berghain). A sojourn into the darkness of unsicht-Bar in Mitte, however, offers a type of blackout experience found in only a handful of places worldwide: complete blind dining.
Established in 2002, the world’s biggest dark restaurant keeps the menu a secret until diners have eaten and left the large dining room. After choosing from a basic menu guide (beef, vegetarian, lamb, poultry), your senses of smell, taste and touch are coaxed into action to help distinguish the exact flavors gracing your palette.
Guests are attentively serviced by blind or visually impaired waiters, who adeptly aid those groping in the dark for their bottle of wine. The bill will raise a few eyebrows but keep in mind: this place is more about the experience than the food, thankfully.
