Jamaican food fused with European cuisine might sound like a crazy idea, but this Kreuzberg eatery pulls a Tim Gunn and makes it work. Friends Troy Lopez and Kirk Henry merged together (literally: the restaurant is named after their grandmothers) to create a modestly fashionable restaurant oozing with gorgeous flavors and all the fire and heartiness of their native country.
Jamaican fish stew slow-cooked with celery and potato dumplings, ackee and salt fish with rice and dumplings and, of course, jerk chicken piled over mixed rice-and-peas with coleslaw are just some of the savory options from the select, but well-executed, menu of the 97-person eatery. On occasion, you may even find randomly famous clientele dining here, such as Jamaican ambassador to Germany Joy Wheeler or—wait for it—the Wu-Tang Clan.
