As self-described, card-carrying members of Berlin’s third wave coffee movement, boyfriend/girlfriend co-owners of Rée Kaffee bring a slow foods sensibility to their café, purveying artisanal, small batch items created by local food producers—including a take-your-breath-away, freshly squeezed blood- orange juice. Refined and charming, Rée Kaffee is a shortened form of owner Desirée’s name, a homonym for the German translation of ‘deer.’

It’s the details that count at this coffee nook, from a framed picture of a very pregnant, very naked Kate Moss to tiny, deer-emblazoned accents everywhere your eyes alight. In-house baked goods, from savory quiche to decadent brownies to fruit-and-yogurt muesli, round out the experience of nursing premium coffee sourced from a traditional roastery in Rée’s hometown. Look closely, lest you miss the bottles of handmade Berlin vodka for sale next to the register. With floor to ceiling front windows, this small and lovely space offers a computer-free ambiance ideal for leafing through its well stocked selection of high- and low-art magazines.
