Little Otik was born out of the Palisaden supper club, a monthly event started by two New York natives who bravely welcomed strangers into their home to serve them delicious seasonal and regional dishes. The club’s popularity rapidly outgrew their Friedrichshain bedroom so the pair set out in search of a more permanent location.

Owners Kevin and Jeffrey—chef and front of house respectively—have made it their personal mission to bring their diners local and organically sourced produce, respectfully prepared to preserve the integrity of the ingredients. On their menu—which changes on a day-to-day basis and is entirely overhauled each month—expect to find titillating fare like citrus marinated beets, crème fraiche and pistachios, wild venison served with braised cabbage and cornmeal dumplings and black eyed pea stew with quinoa, escarole and poached egg. Be sure to save room for dessert or you might miss out on some of Kevin’s most ingenious creations, such as homemade prune and armagnac ice cream served with hazelnut cookies which will send your taste buds into a sublime frenzy.

The interior perfectly compliments Kevin’s understated yet multifarious creations. The co-owners lovingly renovated the entire restaurant with discarded gems they sourced from around the city. The flooring was once part of a Turnhalle (Gymnasium) and in its past life the bar was part of the support beams that formed the foundations of a building. The result of their DIY efforts? An undeniably inviting space that makes you feel as though you’re dining in a New England farm house set against coastal scenery instead of the midst of Kreuzberg, an atmosphere that is driven home by the dim lighting, dark wooden tables and cornflower blue ceiling.

The prices are more than fair. Expect to pay around 17€ for a main and be sure to accompany your meal with one of their excellent German wines, ardently representing all of Deutschland’s wine regions.
