This boutique, organic frozen-yogurt shop is a modern incarnation of old-school Efa’s—a family-owned company with bragging rights as the official frozen-yogurt purveyor for the 1972 Olympics in Munich. Co-founder Felicitas’ grandfather founded the original, and its new, Berlinische mystique includes homage to its Bavarian forebearer.
Efa’s knickers-clad icon is a throwback to yesteryear, and its agave-sweetened, 100-percent organic-dairy yogurt recipe was developed by the son of Efa’s original formulator. But if it’s the sticky-sweet stuff you’re after, don’t come here. Efa’s offers bonafide yogurt as pure as the undriven snow, with a satisfying, sour bite and rich consistency. Toppings range from fruit, to crispy chocolate confections, to French-imported fruit purees that are startling in their fresh, saucy simplicity. It’s damn good and the city’s latest must-do on a sweltering afternoon.
