Babanbè—the brainchild of three German friends who met up and ate their way through Saigon— brings the fine art of banh mi, or Vietnamese sandwich, to Berlin.
It took the owners months of experiments to get the bread right—but the result is a golden, crispy baguette the way you find it in Vietnam. Filled with fresh veggies and flavorful meat, Babanbe’s banh mi ranges from the traditional roast pork with fresh chili lime mayo to more experimental fares like wasabi roast beef. In addition to the sandwiches, you’ll find homemade pho bo, a noodle soup served with slices of raw beef—a rarity in Berlin, where pho ga (Vietnamese chicken noodle soup) still dominates.
