Situated in the Berlin’s only women’s center, “Schokoladenfabrik,” Hamam has been relaxing women with traditional Turkish methods since 1988. “Hamam,” which is synonymous with bathing, translates into “to warm,” which is appropriate as this Hamam maintains a perfectly warm environment (both temperature-wise and atmospherically).
The space is divided into a number of rooms, all with different focuses. Upon entrance there is a large room dedicated to lounging where women can drink tea and eat Turkish snacks like small sandwiches made with feta, parsley and cucumber. Downstairs, the main space is quiet, with pleasant traditional Turkish music, and aromatherapy-infused air. Further down the hall is the actual Hamam, where granite sinks are situated in small nooks and women bathe each other (or themselves) using small bowls. The center of the room also has a large heated stone or “gobek tasi” where one can lie or simply warm their towels.
With both a sauna and an infra-red cabin, Hamam is fully equipped to help you unwind. If all the heating up gets you too hot, escape to the landscaped yard for some fresh air. The Hamam also offers massages, full-body-peelings (Kese), soapy rub-downs (Sabunlama), waxing and other cosmetic services.
