While a bit kitsch and over-the-top, Wintergarten Varieté maintains a theatrical charm harking back to the days of theater yore. The Wintergarten Varieté re-opened in 1992 and has recreated some of the performative elements one associates with old Berlin—charming doormen, top-hat adorned employees, magicians and cigarette vendors.
Perhaps the variety shows they host are a bit cheesy, but the atmosphere makes up for it. The theater is flanked in shining brass elements, sleek precious wood, shining mirrors, rich red velvet and nearly 5,000 tiny light bulbs that suggest a night sky.
