The start for these unusual art space was Georg Patzenhofer’s brewery, built back in 1886. The bavarian guy started producing dark beer, which nobody was familiar with in Berlin. Friedrichshöhe right behind Friedrichshain was the perfect place for a dry and cooling beer cellar. By the end of the 19th century he became one of the biggest brewers in Europe, pushed by the merger with the Schultheiss-Brauerei. They kept the place up and running until 1990; after tha wall came down they started taering apart the beautiful historical buildings and detonated the 85 meters high chimney in 1996. You can find some of the technical equipment in the Technical Museum. The last pieces including the Villa are under historical protection and continuously host funky art events.


The former brewery became a new cultural center in Berlin-Friedrichshain. Located in this wonderful postindustrial building, this 900 sq. meter exhibition space is the ideal location for the largest and most comprehensive Urban Art exhibitions in Germany to date.
