Quality Lovers aren’t fond of being described as an art collective or crew. In their words, simply, “we are just QL.” Formed in 2006 by outfit of designers, writers and aesthetic junkies, Enorm, Jjoe, Color, Zero, Porno and Remiks, QL soon became en vogue in the underground urban art scene and despite losing Zero they gained newfound support and members, Fake and Error76. QL originally stood for Cool, because that is how it sounds when spoken with a guttural German tongue. These days the term is a bit more relaxed and flirtatious and has many connotations: Quality Lovers, Quasi Legenden or Quer Lenker are just a few.
Drawing influence and inspiration from design and graffiti, QL trade and borrow techniques and styles. Other graffiti artists rightfully claimed they were not doing graffiti anymore and so, in true QL maverick nature, they agreed with their critics and changed the game. Their work is now called Graphicti. QL seem to be expressing their anarchistic ideals through their art; “We don’t believe in rules, every medium or technique is allowed. We believe in quality, whatever you use to produce it.”
