Jostling for position on a crowded artsy stretch, Galerie Gerken’s first incarnation established itself as one of the standout galleries on Augustraße—not least because of the motorised granite sculpture of a beating heart that loomed large above the second exhibition space. Having graduated from the hustle and bustle to a new locale on Linienstraße, the gallery has found itself some breathing space. Still maintaining a focus on painting, drawing and sculpture—but now with a space more suited to displaying their represented works—Gerken exhibits both established artists and their young contemporaries alike; showing two artistic disciplines alongside each other per exhibition. The granite sculpture may be gone but the heart remains.
