Reopened in early November 2008, the new incarnation of Kreuzberg’s Ballhaus embraces the local multicultural landscape and, under the artistic direction of Shermin Langhoff, focuses on post-migrant cultural productions. Local luminaries from the literary and theater worlds, along with film directors Fatih Akin (The Edge of Heaven, Head-on_) and Neco Çelik (_Urban Guerillas), have pledged to help rejuvenate the multi-cultural scene.

Though the Ballhaus plans to eventually program dance and cinema events, at the moment its plate is full with theater festivals that foreground the contemporary immigrant experience. Ballhaus also collaborates with local cultural organizations like Diyalog to strengthen European theater networks.
