Smoky, dim, demure, Tier is one of Neukölln’s standout hipster havens. Slung languidly across the Weserstraße from Ä, this raffish, understated bar sports expansive, appropriately fogged glass windows that act as a fishbowl frame to the cobblestone streetscape outside.
Seats can become scarce after 21:00 as the stylus slips from Johnny Cash to David Bowie, but ample standing space at an elongated bar counter—a Berlin rarity—allows visitors the chance to enjoy a drink whilst examining the stylish pack.
While the atmosphere is cosy and friendly, the wooden pallets that make up the majority of the bar’s floor space can prove hazardous. Try to remain nonchalant if you trip—the hipsters will snicker. But that’s life in the animal kingdom, nicht wahr?
