In the mid-nineties, the area under Heinrich-Heine Straße U-Bahn started to rumble with the beats of underground rock. Back then, the use of the rooms was illegal, though this is hardly a new phenomenon for rock’n’rollers.
Now a full-fledged club and live music venue, Sage trades in Berlin’s techno scene for guitar-driven chaos of the hard rock, indie, Britpop and rock classics variety, particularly on Thursdays, the club’s main party nights. Finally, the surly, tattooed bartenders may look like they have just broken parole to dole out drinks, but it’s all part of the charm.
