Klub der Republik
Drinking the past away

Klub der Republik lifts its name from the now demolished Palast der Republik (the Parliament building of the German Democratic Republic), where club owners scavenged for left over bits of prime GDR furnishings. The light fixtures and other interior elements are all appropriately East German, yet the club owners managed to create a non-kitschy environment where unlike in the GDR times, your neighbor isn’t reporting to the Stasi how many drinks you’ve consumed.

Klub der Republik, caught in-between being a club and a bar, sits on the second floor of a building whose facade is one large glass panel.

While Prenzlauer Berg locals do stop in for drinks, don’t be surprised if you meet West Berlin college boys venturing into East Berlin for the night.
