Completed in 1896, ewerk is Germany’s oldest preserved commercial power plant—but this is only part of its long and complicated history. It was badly damaged in WWII but restored by the Soviets for continued use. Given landmark status in 1987, it then housed artistic installations, theater performances and fashion shoots before embarking on a well-known affair with techno fever, which lasted until the club’s closing in 1997.

Since then, ewerk has been transformed into residential and office spaces, but a number of its snazzy, ritzy rooms can be booked for exclusive events.
