Coffee joint by day and funky shebeen by night, this rather schizophrenic lounge has two names: Kaffe Kaschemme and Eschschloraque Rümschrüp—but to enjoy all its delights you only need know where to find it. Tucked away at the end of the alleyway between Cinema Cafe and Panasia, and signposted by a bizarre bat-cum-frog sculpture, Kaffe Kaschemme serves up all the standard cafe trimmings. Kick back either on the sun decked patio surrounded by Berlin street art, or inside where the vibrant aesthetics literally frolic in a blue and red haze—yes, we’re referring to you, silhouetted surf boarder on the wall.
As 20:00 chimes Eschschloraque Rümschrüp comes out to play, swapping coffees for cocktails and the hum of social chitchat for jumping beats. The music plays by its own rules; folk, pop and electronic are regular genres punctuated by special live music events. But perhaps most fun is every first Monday of the month where an open turntable night gives Berlin’s unknown a chance to spin hot wax.
