Aside from selling clothing, El Mercadillo once had its own first-floor cafe, which catered to a fair segment of the city’s hipster population. The cafe has since closed, and the hipsters duly moved on, but that hasn’t stopped eager shoppers from visiting the store for its sizeable vintage collection consisting of rack upon rack of well worn t-shirts, jackets, sweaters, bags, sunglasses and the assortment of other odd treasures to be found while digging through apparel past.
The well-known camel statue that greets visitors upon entry still startles those who have spent the day engaged in less-than-wholesome pursuits, and effectively announces the quirky character of this clothing shop.
