El Tragaluz is a converted three story building in downtown Eixample, now topped by a glass ceiling that enables sunlight to flood the dining area. Co-proprietors Tomàs and María Rosa Torruella have made it their mission to combine the appeal of the restaurant’s space with food that is equally dazzling.
Market-fresh produce is insisted upon, and utilized in a sumptuous menu that combines Mediterranean and avant-garde cuisine. The exact constitution of the menu tends to vary according to the seasons, but the fillet of pork with figs and goat cheese is a regular favorite, and the steamed fish with fresh asparagus is equally delicious.
Tables at El Tragaluz are highly sought after, so reservations are practically a must. Likewise, the clientele is usually pretty snappily dressed, so spare your partner’s blushes by at least making a passable attempt at smartness.
