Plaça Sant Jaume
Living history

This ancient square is home to the Generalitat de Catalunya (the seat of the Catalan government) and the Ayuntamiento (city hall). The proclamation of the Catalan state took place at Plaça Sant Jaume in 1931. It is also famous for being the site of celebrations of FC Barcelona’s league triumphs: the footballers are prone to appearing on the Generaltat balcony and displaying their trophy to the roaring hordes.
