The garden was built in 1791 when Joan Antoni Desvalls i d’Ardenne, the sixth Marquis of Llupià, created the design of the neo-classical garden in collaboration with the Italian architect Domenico Bagutti.
In the mid-19th century, the descendants of the Marquis of Llupià expanded the park, which would serve as a stage for outdoor theater productions.
In 1967, the municipality of Barcelona took over the park, which opened to the public in 1971. Since 1993, the former palace has been the home to the Training Center of the Labyrinth, the municipal institute for botanical training.
