In the spring of 1995 the museum opened its doors anew, this time with an important innovation: the incorporation of a collection representing Spanish industrial design. This made it the first museum in all of Spain to include an extensive collection of industrial design objects in its permanent exhibition, arranged in this case chronologically and by stylistic periods.
The museum is now in a phase of expansion since its own collections are being joined by those of the Textile and Clothing Museum and the Graphic Arts Cabinet. These three museums will form the core of the future Design Centre’s holdings.
The permanent exhibition contains two separate areas. The first one presents European pieces, which are organized into different halls according to period. The second area opens with the art versus industry debate, the antecedent of design, and continues with an analysis of objects from a project, production, sale and consumption point of view.
