Right next to Amsterdam’s best known shopping area, this charming little shop offers a welcome break from fashion’s beaten track. An initiative of seven independent designers, Open sells a wide range of handmade clothing, accessories and jewelery.
The assortment is as diverse as it is colorful: you’ll find 80s neon sweaters, Japanese schoolgirl ruffled shirts, cherry-decorated stockings and earrings adorned with anything ranging from plastic flowers to Rubik’s cubes. Also, there is a small selection for men.
With seven designers working under one roof, there’s a wide range in styles. The common denominator seems to be a daring use in colors and materials and a non-conventional view on fashion. This results in cheeky, original clothes which sometimes cross the thin line between glitter and kitsch.
