Just what the doctor ordered on a lazy, hung-over Sunday afternoon: a small stroll through the largest permanent indoor market in the Netherlands, filled with the flotsam and jetsam of human culture, plus some stuff you might even find a use for.
Whether you’re in the market for antique toys, baubles for your better half, Asian or religious art, antique nudes from the 19th century, the Looier has 72 stands and 90 showcases for you to rummage through. Wednesdays, Saturdays and Sundays are Family Days at the Looier, when the entire maret turns into the Dutch equivalent of a mass garage sale.
There’s no cover charge and the merchants aren’t pushy, so you can just loiter at leisure and if you get tired or dehydrated from walking, a freshly squeezed orange juice at the Looier café is a stroll away.
