The Albert Cuyp market, named after an old Dutch painter, is a melting pot of the many different cultures of Amsterdam—Turkish, Moroccan, Indonesian and Surinam influences mixing with Dutch food culture.
Try a bite of Indian barra, Surinam moksi meti, Morrocan harira or classic Dutch stroopwafels: it’s all possible at the Albert Cuyp! Though the market is mainly dedicated to all things food, there are a variety of stalls with luggage, flowers, discount fashions and all-round junk.
The area around the Albert Cuyp is filled with reasonably priced restaurant, cafés, clothes and food stores. Just see it as an adventurous expedition and try not to disappointed by some of the tackier shops; there are some real hidden treasures to be found. Happy hunting!
