From the owners of the Mad Hatter-like cake shop, De Taart van m’n Tante, comes this kitsch-filled pension. Above the explosively bright pastry shop sits two large apartments, which host guestrooms, common space living rooms and shared kitchens and bathrooms.
Housed in a classic Amsterdam 19th-century merchant’s building, Cake Under My Pillow lets visitors make their own breakfast in the fully-stocked communal kitchen or, as an alternative, gives guests cake and coffee vouchers for free sweets below.
While a stay at Cake Under My Pillow is for the socially inclined, guests can always hole up in their rooms, which all have flat screen TVs and wireless Internet. Each two-person color-themed room has orthopedic beds that will make you want to sleep the day away—but make sure to rise and shine, if not simply for the freshly baked macadamia nut butter cookies sitting in the kitchen.
