Though housed in a stately canal house, Foam is Amsterdam’s answer to a contemporary photography museum. Inside, it’s everything you’d expect: bright, modern and sleekly designed. Although relatively small, the museum has a lot of nooks and crannies with hidden treasures. Foam explores photography from many different angles, with the spotlight often on established photographers; but they also feature young talent. The intimate library on the 3rd floor, for instance, always hosts exhibitions by recently graduated photographers.
And after a lengthy stint gazing at Foam’s inspiring selections, there’s another welcome secret in the basement: the café. With a quiet reading table, free wi-fi and delicious, home-made sandwiches and pies it’s the perfect spot to regain your strength.
