Fancy some fine wine and hearty Dutch grub while drifting along the sprawling canal system? Look no further than ‘t Smalle, Amsterdam’s former wine bar of the year with an acclaimed list of international tipples and serious brews for the beer fans among you.
The cosy and rustic interior was once the tasting house for the nearby Hoppe gin distillery and serves as an atmospheric and intimate stage during the winter months. But the piece de resistance is their waterside patio on the tranquil Egelantiersgracht canal. It’s a sublime setting in the summer season and one we recommend enjoying with ‘t Smalle’s Ossenworst—a raw beef dish—and a Blanche de Bruxelles wheat beer.
If you’re in the mood, arrive by boat, but we suggest heading home via terra firma if you’ve uncorked a few bottles of the vintage.
