Cozily couched on a street corner in a laid-back (even for Amsterdam standards) neighborhood, Café Harlem is street-savvy dive where the booze is abundant and the New York style steaks are juicy and worth the bite. Despite its name, there is little about this cafe that bespeaks its U.S. namesake with a decor that veers closer to kitsch. The only authentic nods seem to be a select few food items as well as the funky blues style music selection associated with legendary New York City neighborhood as well as the greater American South. Either way, there is reason enough to stick around whether you are in the mood for a cool beer, some dank food, or kitschy-esque Harlem vibe.
Noteworthy dishes include, the spicy Jamaican jerk chicken nachos which come served in an earthenware dish straight from the oven with lightly burnt cheese crackling on top. With a helping of creamy, spicy-sweet guacamole and an Amstel on your side, Café Harlem will treat you right, whether you pop in for a pick-me-up or opt to while away the night.
