This quaint squat is affectionately named after a diminutive for Molotov cocktail and the locals here are still likely to hate “the polices” as much during this current economic crisis as in the 1980’s squatter heyday.
Founded almost 30 years ago, Molli’s the oldest surviving squat left standing. If you want to learn more about (legal) squatting in Amsterdam, there’s an information hour every Monday between 19:00 and 20:30. There’s also a vegan three-course meal every Thursday night for a measly €3 (don’t forget to reserve in advance) and there are workshops ranging from carbon-free squatting to a DIY-course on how to build your own compost toilet.
Activism is still very much a vital component of the Molli as attested by its Free Food! handouts every first Sunday of the month on the Museumplein, as well as its other events to protest the growing conformity and blandness in modern society. It’s counter-culture in its purest form.
