De Rokerij
Magic carpet ride

Although decorated with the “medieval cathedral” vein in mind, this coffee shop, along with its three sister locations around Amsterdam, boasts fascinating, rich wall murals, which become increasingly mesmerizing the more you smoke. Colorful cushions add to the magical ambiance, while you have to descend into the “dungeon” to buy the products.

This first and largest Rokerij, established in 1996 and located just off the Leidseplein, oozes candlelit exotic warmth. Another, decorated in an African theme, is on de Singel, while the newest Rokerij, sporting an Indian theme, is on the Elandsgracht in De Jordaan.

In general, the merchandise here is on the expensive side, and there are other places that offer more flavorful varieties, so we suggest you come here for the atmosphere—which is amazing—instead of the products themselves.
