An offshoot of Kriterion, which brought us the titular cinema, as well as a gas station (!) and a babysitting service (!!), Studio/K is a brand new cinema run by students. Even though the place still has some kinks to work out, it’s already attracting a diverse and laid back crowd of cosmopolitan cinema-goers and neighborhood families alike.
Besides a cinema, Studio/K also hosts spoken word performances, live music, the occasional theater show and other cultural events on a frequent basis. It has two screening rooms, one with retractable chairs so room can be made for another dance floor and a multifunctional theater space, as well as a roomy bar and dining area. During the day the kitchen serves a selection of fairly good sandwiches and in the evening it’s the place to be for a hot meal.
Prices are reasonable all around, but since the cinema, bar and kitchen isn’t staffed by the most experienced of personnel, patience is a virtue worth having. There’s also a hostel located in the same building, which might be an advantage or disadvantage depending on your tolerance for backpackers.
