While the name may be a mouthful, the Nederlands Instituut voor Mediakunst, Montevideo/Time Based Arts (also known as the Netherlands Media Art Institute) has a relatively modest set of goals, seeking to showcase contemporary new media art and performance-based work.
Founded in 1978, the institute’s collection holds over 1,500 works by international artists ranging from early experimental acquisitions to recent productions. Also on site is the publicly-accessible Mediatheque, the institute’s library containing books, magazines, documentation, plus the collection’s video works in their entirety.
In keeping with its spirit of experimentation, the NIMk offers new media artists a wide range of on-site services, such as post-production assistance and more traditional project and grant fellowships.
