At the heart of the old gas-winning plant that now has become cultural hotspot the Westergasfabriek, a peculiar-looking building with a curved roof houses the Ketelhuis (“kettle house”), then a boiler house, now a cinema.
This small cinema programs smaller art-films and many Dutch productions. The intimate setting makes sure that going to the movies doesn’t feel like going to a multiplex, where visitors are led to their seat like sheep to a barn.
The Ketelhuis is one of those cute little cinemas were movies aren’t necessarily accompanied by the sweet smell of stale popcorn. Instead, you can enjoy a drink in the lovely café. It even offers a classic dinner-and-a-movie “Filmdiner”—enjoy a two-course meal just across the way at Pacific Parc and go see a movie at the Ketelhuis before or after for a mere €28.50 (note: reserve a day in advance).
