This former East German boat has got to be one of the most unique clubs and cultural spaces around. Often docking on the north side of Amsterdam, you hop aboard this experience by scrambling up onto the deck, and then climbing down a narrow steel stairway to get to the bar.

The boat, run by a 12-member crew, is equipped for a variety of artistic uses. For example, if you go down one corridor, on your right as you enter the bar, there’s a room used for film screenings and other activities. If you turn left at the bar, you can climb down to the dance floor. A variety of local and international DJs spin electronic, industrial, alternative and other forms of seaworthy tunage.

For smokers, standing outside on the deck provides an interesting view of the boat, the water and the twinkling lights of central Amsterdam. In a world filled to the brim with clubs and drinking holes all vying for customers, talk about a USP (Unique Selling Point, for those not addicted to Mad Men). Please note, the ferries over the IJ do not run all night, so check the timetable before heading out.
