When most bars close, this bar starts to flourish. Although De Doffer also serves a reasonably priced lunch and dinner, most people only know this place as the last stop of the night. It’s conveniently situated in the heart of the Jordaan, nearby earlier-closing other bars and restaurants.

On weekdays most Amsterdam bars close at 1:00, but sometimes that is just when the party’s getting started. If you don’t want to go to a club or go home, and just feel like a good philosophical conversation with your drinking buddies, this unpretentious café is the place to go.

Before 1:00 the clientele consists of students, the occasional office slave from the canals, and anyone who decided to stay for an extra drink or two after dinner.
